This homeowner out in Burleson was dealing with a real problem. Every time it rained, water was running straight down the walls, dirtying up the windows and garage doors. Worse than that, the foundation was starting to recede on their new home - which is one of the more serious issues you can ignore as a homeowner in Texas.
We installed 6-inch aluminum gutters in matte black along with 3x4 inch downspouts to move water away from the structure efficiently. The 6-inch size matters here. Standard 5-inch gutters can get overwhelmed during heavy Texas downpours with their steep roof. Going with 6-inch gives significantly more capacity so water isn't spilling over the edge and pooling at the base of the home.
The black finish was a deliberate choice that works with the home's exterior. This place has dark trim, dark garage doors, and board-and-batten siding - all in black. The gutters blend right in rather than standing out as an afterthought. Good drainage doesn't have to look like an eyesore.
The 3x4 downspouts are the other key piece. They carry water away from the foundation faster and with less risk of backup. When you have a foundation already showing signs of soil movement, you cannot afford for water to keep sitting at the base of your walls every time it rains. Getting that water directed away from the structure is the first step to stabilizing the situation.
Foundation issues in this part of the DFW area are common - the clay soils expand and contract with moisture changes. A properly sized gutter and downspout system won't fix existing damage, but it absolutely stops the ongoing water source that's making it worse. That's exactly what we set out to do on this job.
