Leaf guards are a smart investment - but they are not a set-it-and-forget-it solution. Over time, mud, shingle granules, and decomposed debris work their way into the system anyway. When that happens, water backs up, overflows, and you are right back to the same problem you were trying to avoid.

That is exactly what we were dealing with on this Burleson home. The gutters were packed with leaves and sludge that had built up underneath the existing guards. The guards themselves were doing their job to a point, but the gunk that got through had nowhere to go. The channels were essentially blocked, and the whole system had stopped draining the way it should.

We pulled everything out, did a full gutter cleaning to clear the buildup, and got the channels flushed and flowing again. Once the gutters were clean, we installed new leaf guards fitted tight to the roofline. Now rain has a clear path through the system instead of pooling and spilling over the edge.

Here is the thing a lot of homeowners do not realize - if your gutters are overflowing during a rainstorm, it does not always mean the gutters themselves are the problem. Sometimes it is what is sitting inside them. A gutter guard that is covering up a blockage is not protecting your home, it is just hiding the issue. Getting a proper cleaning done first, then installing guards on a clean system, is the right order of operations.

If your gutters are slow to drain or you are seeing water spill over the fascia during rain, it is worth having someone take a look. The fix is usually simpler than homeowners expect - and a lot cheaper than dealing with foundation or siding damage down the road.
