This home had a real drainage problem. Water coming off the roof had nowhere to go, and that meant pooling in the yard and around the foundation every time it rained. The fresh exterior paint made it even more clear that the gutters needed to match - both in function and appearance.
We went with 6-inch cameo gutters paired with wicker downspouts. The color pairing was intentional. Cameo and wicker are warm, neutral tones that complement the brick and the updated paint without standing out in a bad way. When gutters are done right, they almost disappear into the home - and that's exactly what happened here.
The 6-inch size matters more than most people realize. Standard 5-inch gutters can get overwhelmed during heavy rain. Going up to 6 inches gives the system significantly more capacity to handle runoff, which directly reduces the chance of overflow and yard flooding. For a home with this much roofline, that upgrade makes a big difference.
Downspout placement was just as important as the gutter size. Getting the water off the roof is only half the job - you have to get it away from the house too. Each downspout routes water down and out, away from the foundation and landscaping. No more pooling, no more erosion along the beds.
A properly sized, properly installed gutter system does a lot of quiet work. It protects your foundation, your landscaping, your siding, and your yard. Most homeowners don't think about gutters until something goes wrong - but getting ahead of drainage issues is always the smarter move.
